It’s June, so I’m sure we’re all feeling the heat. It sucks, to be honest. I don’t care what that meme says
When it’s hot, it’s hot. We need to remember to take care of ourselves out there. Here are some tips on how to beat the heat on the golf course this summer.
This is one of those “well, duh…” kind of things, but let’s say it anyway. We need to dress accordingly. Hopefully there aren’t too many of us trying to emulate Tour pros so hard that we also wear the slacks in 100 degree weather. Find the “climate controlled” stuff, doesn’t matter what brand, just get something that’ll help wick the moisture off your body.
Drink lots of fluids. Don’t focus on the hard liquor or beer… that’ll just make it worse. Sure, have one or two- I’m not a killjoy- but drink water, Gatorade, Powerade, or whatever else while you’re out there, as well.
Remember the old tip: if you’re mouth’s dry, you’re already dehydrated. Don’t let that happen, please!
If you have to, bring ice packs. Place them on the back of your neck if you’re getting too hot. Your bag towel and ice from your cooler (that you paid for at the bar… right?) can also work.
We trap heat in our heads, so try to avoid wearing a hat. Sunglasses, or maybe a visor can help keep you cool.
Find shade if you need to. For some of us and our wayward drives, that might not be that big of a task… unless you keep coming back to GLG, that is!
Please, please heed these words. Or what other people talk about it. Heat stroke isn’t a joke. It can be deadly. Don’t do anything to jeopardize your health. Do all you can to beat the heat on the golf course, so we can all keep enjoying this great game.
