The Green Lantern Golf Fitting Process
There are two ways that I’ll fit you:
First, is in person. If you live in the SW Michigan/NE Indiana area, call or shoot me an email (available in the “Contact” page) to set up an appointment.
Don’t be afraid to have a conversation with me about it. I have a post about questions you should ask a club fitter if you want to check it out. If you don’t see a question or an answer you need, ask away! The more info, the better.
Things you’ll need to bring:
- Your current clubs. It’s for baseline measurements. You don’t need to bring them all if, say, you only want a driver.
- A positive attitude. I’m going to let you in on a secret, but I won’t tell you what it is right now.
That’s really it! The fitting process should take under an hour, but there could be factors that hamper that. Keep in mind I charge a flat rate by the hour. If the fitting is looking like it’ll go over, I’ll ask you first before that happens. However, if you buy the clubs from me, I waive that fee.
The process takes two weeks, very much like it would for a suit or dress fitting from a tailor. You’ll pay upfront, and I’ll get a test club* to you by the end of the first week. If you like it, the rest of the set is completed. After that, you’ll come back when they’re done to do any last-minute checks, then off you go with your new stick(s)!
As for that “secret”, it’s not really a secret, but something people seem to have forgotten when it comes to golf:
We never swing the exact same way every single time. No one does, regardless of the task. As humans, we aren’t capable of doing that.
This includes professional golfers, as well!
What I’m telling you is, it’s OK if your swing isn’t perfect and/or repeatable. It’s a product of being human. Now, there are instances where you just might not “have it”. Don’t get frustrated! You can always take a break, or we can reschedule if you prefer.
The whole point of the process is to find the right specs for your clubs, but to have fun, as well. If something is stopping you from doing that, it won’t do you any good to try to power through the fitting process like that. You don’t need to feel any undue pressure!
*The test club will be as follows:
- For woods, it depends on what you’re buying. If you buy a set of woods, it’ll be the three wood.
- For wedge sets, it’ll be the SW.
- For iron sets, it’ll be the 6 iron
If you’re buying clubs individually, it’ll be that club. So, if you’re only interested in a 3 wood, that’s the test club. If you’re wanting just a gap wedge, that’s what the test club will be.
If you’re outside of the SW MI/NE IN area, but still want a quality set of affordable golf clubs, you can always click on my FREE online fitting form (also located in the sidebar).
You’ll fill out the form- be honest!- and it’ll get sent to me. From there, I’ll contact you and we’ll do an interview session, to see where you’re at, what you like, what your budget is, etc.
From there, I’ll figure out what club(s) will be best, and I’ll email you my recommendations. If you agree, I’ll send you a PayPal invoice. You pay for the clubs, and I’ll get to work. Just like with the “live” fitting, it’ll be a two-week process.
While the cost of the fitting is free, there is a catch: you’ll have to pay a little more, to handle the shipping costs.
Speaking of costs, you can see what Green Lantern Golf charges here. Be aware that this is where the prices start; any upgrades to the shaft, the grip, or the club head will result in an upcharge.
Let’s be honest: there are some customers that want to get their specs, but buy online.
To be perfectly honest, I’m really not against that. Shocked? Don’t be; remember what I said about wanting you to be happy?
GLG is about quality clubs at a price you can afford. If you can’t afford my clubs, that’s OK; Ebay does have a lot to offer. I will happily just fit you, for a rate of $60 an hour. I’ll even help you find stuff on the Bay that would be suitable to your game and budget!
